Marketing & Public Relations Intern

Department: Development & Marketing

Responsible for supporting the Development and Marketing Department in the promotion and marketing of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin and advancing the mission and vision of the agency.  This includes: volunteer recruitment, public relations, Bowl for Kids' Sake, and enhancing agency's community image.  This position is primarily responsible for creating and distributing the Big News newsletter to volunteers, donors, and parents along with creating and distributing a mid-monthly email update.

Responsibilities:

  • To plan, produce, and distribute all key communications with constituents, including the newsletter and updates.
  • To assist in marketing Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin, including: general public awareness, recruiting volunteers, creating promotional materials as needed, assisting in social media efforts, and participating in marketing events.
  • Create press releases and maintain an up-to-date media contact list.
  • Participate in local networking events.
  • Assist with planning or running Big/Little and fundraising events as needed.
  • Assist in other marketing or fund development activities as deemed necessary.
  • Schedule must be flexible enough to be able to attend occasional evening or weekend events or activities as needed.

Required Skills

  • Thrive in a dynamic environment, be open to new ideas, and have the ability to analyze a variety of media for effective communications.
  • Good written & verbal communication skills.
  • Possess superb organizational and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently and be a selfstarter in a team-oriented environment and work congenially with staff, Board members, donors, adult volunteers, youth, and others.
  • Demonstrate an ability to organize complex materials, manage more than one project at a time, and communicate comfortably in a professional setting.

Preferred Skills

Previous experience in:

  • Writing press releases and stories/article
  • Creating flyers and marketing materials
  • Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, and Microsoft Publisher a plus
