Think back to when you were a kid, can you remember an adult that made an impact on your life? To an adult, little acts may not seem like much, but they can make a big impact on a child. This is what a Big Brother or Big Sister can mean to a child. From a friendly phone call, to throwing a ball or a trip to the pumpkin patch, the mentors of Big Brothers Big Sisters have a ‘Big’ impact.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin helps children who often are faced with circumstances that stand in the way of becoming successful later in life--divided families, poverty and even neglect or abuse. We help kids grow and succeed through the simple act of providing them with a caring adult friend and mentor. For many of these children, their Big Brother or Sister is often the one reliable and constant adult role model they have--truly a hero.
In 2006, Big Brothers Big Sisters or Northwestern Wisconsin served over 600 children in Eau Claire, Chippewa, Dunn, Pierce, and St. Croix counties. We are constantly growing and that means we are continuing to recruit volunteers to meet the shortage of adult mentors. Our staff thoroughly screen and check volunteers to assure child safety, carefully match the child and the mentor, and support and nurture the match with regular contact and guidance. This regular contact assures a positive outcome of each child. This is why it costs almost $1,000 to make and support 1 match!
Please consider supporting our programs and help us find a hero for every child. Your entire gift will support children in your community! Remember, your entire gift is tax deductible!
