Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin was established in 1972 under the name of Kinship of Eau Claire County, serving children with one-on-one caring adult volunteers. In 1992, the agency began a three-year-long affiliation process with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a national organization.
In July of 1995, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eau Claire County was awarded full-affiliate status with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America after demonstrating 100% compliance with their 133 Standards and Required Procedures for quality across corporate and program agency management. Our local agency was chartered to serve a nine-county area across West Central Wisconsin.
In 1997 the agency expanded its services into Chippewa County. The agency's name was changed to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Chippewa Valley.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has since expanded its horizons serving a five county area. St. Croix, Pierce Counties, and Dunn County were added. The agency's name was once again changed to reflect the service area. It became and is now, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin.
