Bigs' & Littles' Stories
Tony and Tom (November Match of the Month)
Questions for Tony (Little):
- What do you like best about having a Big Brother? I like how he is a father figure for me since my father has died.
- What is your favorite activity you have done together? We do a lot of things together like woodworking, flying and golf but my favorite is when we built a fishing pole. We attended a rod building class where we spent all day working on them and we built our own fishing pole.
- Tell us something new you have learned from your Big Brother? Woodworking. Working with a tape measure to measure the pieces you have to be real careful so your project looks good when you’re done.
- What do you like best about your Big Brother? He has good ideas of things to do when I don’t and we have a good time golfing together.
- Do you think having a Big Brother has helped you in any way? It helps me deal with the grief of losing my father. I am able to do the things that you do with your father even though he isn’t here to do them with me.
Questions for Tom (Big):
- What do you like best about having a Little Brother? It gives me an opportunity to perhaps make a difference in the life of someone who needs a break. We need to take time to show a young person the good things they can do with their life because they get more than enough of the other. Being able to spend time with Tony doing things he wouldn’t get to do otherwise gives him a chance to see what else is available to him and that is what this is all about to me.
- What is your favorite activity you have done together? I would have to agree with Tony that making the fishing poles at the Rod Builders Guild was a pretty neat day. I couldn’t believe the effort put into the poles and how great each one of them looked when they were finished. Now we just need to see how well they work catching fish.
- What do you like best about your Little Brother? It doesn’t seem to matter what we do together, it is just about the time together. Tony appreciates doing most anything and does it with a positive attitude. I enjoy spending time with Tony because I can tell he appreciates it and is learning at the same time.
- How has having a Little Brother helped you? Spending time with Tony makes me change my routine from time to time. I stop and take the time to have a little fun and do things that perhaps I wouldn’t normally take the time to do in our busy world. We spent an afternoon at an apple orchard and walked through the corn maze, not something I would have done had Tony not been there to do it with and that is good, healthy time.
